Hair shaping: The basic skill that is the foundation for all hairstyling. The durability of any hairstyle is influenced by the shape of the hair.

Overview: This chapter provides three individual methods and procedures for cutting hair. Your school may teach one or all three.

Behavioral objectives-student goals: You must use the proper supplies and equipment in order to complete this chapter. After completion of this chapter, and after instruction, study and practice, you will be able to perform and demonstrate competency in hair shaping by: demonstrating the technique for removing hair bulk, giving a complete haircut with a scissors, giving a complete haircut with a razor, giving a neckline cut, stacking hair, cutting bangs and clipping split ends. You also will be able to demonstrate competency by identifying, explaining and/or listing hair shaping implements, the procedure for children’s haircutting, the importance of child patronage, techniques for coping with child behavior, the requirements for teenage haircuts, the multi-level haircut and mini-scissors precision haircutting.
